Our Statement Of Faith

We believe in the full and verbal inspiration of the entire Old Testament and New Testament as being in themselves, in their original documents, the complete Word of God. We also believe that the Old and New Testaments are infallible and inerrant, giving the only sufficient rule for faith and practice.

We believe in the one true and living God, inexpressibly glorious and infinite in all His attributes and worthy of all honour, love and obedience. We believe this divine and infinite Being consists of three real persons, the Father, the Word or Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three have the same substance, power, and eternity, each having the whole divine essence without this essence being divided.  We also believe in the Sovereignty of God in all things including Creation, Providence, and Redemption.

We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His real and perfect manhood, the authority and the infallibility of all His words. We also believe in His substitutionary death on the cross as being the full, sufficient and only atonement for the sins of His people, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven and His present priestly intercession for His people.

We believe in the work of the Holy Spirit as essential for a true understanding of the Scriptures and for regeneration and conversion of the sinner. We also believe that the Holy Spirit of God leads an individual to repentance towards God and saving faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, along with the work of sanctification of those who are regenerated and converted (God’s elect).

We believe in the total depravity of all mankind, this resulting as the consequence of Adam’s sin (disobedience) from the original state of perfection in which he was created. By this action all mankind is in a state of condemnation and separation from God. Reconciliation of man to God is only accomplished by God through His regeneration and conversion of man.

We believe that Regeneration and Conversion is by the Sovereign Grace of God, in which He bestows His unmerited favor upon whom He chooses (His elect) having been predestinated unto salvation.

We believe that salvation is of God and God alone as He chooses, a work of the Holy Spirit of God. “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:13)

We believe that a sinner is justified (made just [righteous] in the sight of God) by faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, made possible only by the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross. True salvation then produces righteous works in the life of every true believer.

We believe in the final perseverance of all those who are chosen by the Father, redeemed by the Son, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit, so that not one of them shall ever perish but they all shall have everlasting life.

We believe in a literal bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust. We also believe in the literal bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ to judge the world in righteousness and truth, rewarding the eternal blessedness to the redeemed, and the everlasting punishment to the wicked (unrepentant).

We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the body (which is His church) and is the sole authority of it. We also believe that Jesus Christ gives to His church mandates. These mandates are for the governing of His body as local assemblies and are given in the Word of God.

We believe in the observance of the ordinances of Believers Baptism of believers only (by immersion), as being instituted by Jesus Christ. This is done in loving obedience as an act of public testimony of the work of the Spirit of God in their hearts.

We believe in the observance of the Lord’s Supper as a commemoration of our Lord’s death as commanded in the Word of God to His church. This is not a sacrifice for sin, nor do the elements (the bread and the wine) change in their substance.

We believe that the origin of the universe, the world, and life was by the spoken words of God in six consecutive twenty-four hour days about 6,000 years ago, and that the flood account of Genesis was an actual global event.

We believe that marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race. Gen 1:27-28; 2:15-25; Mat 19:4-9; Mk 10:6-12; Eph 5:21-33; Col 3:18-19; Heb 13:4

New Hope Bible Church is “reformed” in its belief in the sovereign grace of our Lord Jesus Christ for the saving and sanctifying of believers.  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Eph 2:8-10.

We are in general agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession and believe it is useful for the practical application of God’s Word to matters of faith and practice.
